In conjunction with the effort to upgrade Steve Phillis' Silver Star, Jim "Boots" Demarest did extensive research and collected that information into a book entitled “Five Nickels: True Story of the Desert Storm Heroics and Sacrifice of Air Force Captain Steve Phillis” which will be released on 15 Feb 22. Because I’m writing this blog post before the release date, I haven’t yet read it myself. However, Tom Sylvester was privileged to see an advance copy and tells me it’s a “damned fine read”. I’m sure it will be riveting and will help generate interest in, and strengthen the case for, the upgrade of Steve’s medal. At 240 pages, it’s shorter than most of the homework assignments from our philosophy classes at USAFA, so go get yourself a copy!
