Happy New Year!

Much has happened in the last two years (we never did get a letter sent last year), including several moves! We hope you've been well. Here's what we've been up to:

In April 1997, Steve was selected as the Operations Officer for the brand-new 23 Operational Support Sq at Pope AFB. He spent much of the time serving as the acting squadron commander as well, and learned much including how to get in really good shape while deployed to Kuwait! Our biggest news is that Steve decided to depart the active duty AF as of 1 Jan 99 after more than 16 years of service--for several reasons not the least being that the AF wanted to send him to a non-flying tour in Hawaii! Sounds nice, but Peggy & Katherine wouldn't have been able to go. He's applied with several airlines (thank you so much to all who have helped!) and is working on a Guard/Reserve position in the meantime. If you happen to know a hiring official at a major airline, we appreciate any/all good words that you might wish to mention!

Aug 97 brought reassignment for Peggy to Langley AFB, where she is Chief of the Systems and Analysis Branch for HQ Air Combat Command Directorate of Personnel (what a title!!). Learning lots, and looking forward to trying to keep up with fitness-buff Steve in the New Year!.  Both Steve and Peggy came to know the road very well between Fayetteville NC and Yorktown VA from lots of commuting.

Katherine continues to bring us great joy as we watch her grow and learn.   We were thrilled to have Aunt Mary Jo live with us for several months in 1998--Katherine still misses her "Mommy Mary Jo."  She loves to play act and we often hear "you be the mommy, I'll be the baby, & you be the Mary Jo." Guess she thinks everyone is lucky enough to have one! We couldn't have survived without MJ & miss her greatly!

Summer 1998 brought a trip back to enjoy MJ's bed and breakfast luxury in Ketchikan, AK. We loved visiting with friends and family, including Ray Jr. and family. In August, we also made a quick trip to an old haunt - Myrtle Beach - what fun to play in the surf and sand for a few days! We've also enjoyed visits from friends and family over the last two years, including Mom Toldy (Steve's Dad is too ill to travel), Steve's sister Sarah & family, Peg's brother Ray Jr., cousin Lou Haase, our friends the Lees and the Girones, Debbi & Doc Lambert, and others.

We're very thankful to be together again as a family. Although we don't always get the chance to call or write, we think of our friends and family often. Each time your photo catches our eye or we see your name in our address book, we think of you and the great memories we've made. We're fortunate to be in a nice house with an extra bedroom, so come visit - as always, we love to hear from you!

P.S. if you happen to know anyone who needs a 2 bedroom place to live in Tucson, our former townhome is available for rent! (The tenant just left.) Nice place w/fireplace, view, 3 swim pools, Jacuzzi, clubhouse, etc.  Please let us know!
